Darcy Jensen Scholarship Recipients
Meet our 2020 Darcy Jensen Scholarship recipient!
Addison Rotan “My name is Addison Rotan and I am so thankful to everyone at Lutheran Campus Ministry for the opportunity that this scholarship offers. I grew up in Fresno, California and recently graduated from Logos Christian Conservatory, a homeschool cooperative. Besides attending school, I have been a part of Hope Lutheran Church since 2011. Throughout my years at Hope, I have been active in the youth group which gave me the opportunities to attend many summer camps, the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas, and also counsel elementary school students at Calvin Crest conferences, a summer camp in Oakhurst. This fall, I will be attending California State University, Fresno pursuing a major in Kinesiology - Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology. With this major, I hope to continue into a Doctorate program for Physical Therapy with the dream of being a pediatric Physical Therapist someday. Throughout college I plan to continue to participate in service throughout my city as I have throughout high school. I also planning on pursuing a study abroad program offered at my University because I have a huge passion for traveling and cannot wait to continue that passion in the next chapter of my life. I am excited for what college has in store for me and am hopeful what this next period of my life will bring!” |

Due to a generous financial gift, Lutheran Campus Ministry of Fresno awarded three students a Darcy Jensen Scholarship! Meet our 2019 recipients below!
$1,000 Award
Taylor Hohenbrink
"My name is Taylor Hohenbrink. I am both appreciative and honored to be the 2019 recipient of the Darcy Jensen Scholarship. I grew up in Clovis, CA and recently graduated from Buchanan High School where I was named Valedictorian with a 4.4GPA, Academic Scholar of Distinction, National Honor Society Member and CSF Life Member. I was on Varsity Track and Varsity Gymnastics at Buchanan as well as involved in student government and various clubs. Outside of school I am a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fresno. I am involved in the youth group where over the past several years I have volunteered countless hours through various projects as well as found time to bond with my church family over summer camps and events like the National Youth Gathering.
This Fall I will be attending California State University, Fresno as a nursing major. I plan on becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the future, so Fresno State will be my first step in doing so. Many people have asked me why I decided to stay at a school so close to home when my original plan was to go away. Financially it is beneficial for my parents, but also at Fresno State I will continue doing the sport I love. I have signed to be a member of the Fresno State Women's Track and Field Team as a pole vaulter. I know being a student athlete will be challenging, but it is a dream I have had since picking up my first pole as a freshman in high school. I am excited for what my first year of college has in store."
$500 Award
Hunter Xiong
"My name is Hunter Xiong and I thank everyone at Lutheran Campus Ministry of Fresno and their generous donors for such an opportunity.
I was born and raised in Fresno, enjoying what the city has to offer: the sun, the heat and our notable produce. Growing up, my grandparents urged me to go to church with them. They were the early forms of encouragement in my walk with Christ. Today, I am a member at Peace Lutheran Church. I joined their youth ministry in 2014 and I will soon transition into their young adult ministry, where I hope to mentor and encourage other youth like me.
Now that I have graduated from Clovis East High School, I will be attending Fresno City College this fall. After two years, I intend to transfer to California State University of Fresno in pursuit of a Bachelor of Social Work Degree, a minor in Business Administration and achieve an Associate's Degree in Psychology. Alongside my studies, I hope to continue to work with the Fresno community. I plan to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and The Fresno Discovery Center. And with the help of my fellow members at Peace Lutheran, I aim to engage with my community my hosting neighborhood events, such as a Community Trunk-or-Treat Outreach or a Community Easter Egg Hunt Outreach."
